Mr. Stephen G. Young

Focusing in state level criminal defense and general civil practice.

Stephen G. Young was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1989 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In 1994, Mr. Young received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis. There, he served as Associate Chief Justice on the Moot Court Board. From 1994 through 1998, Mr. Young was an attorney for the Metropolitan Office of Public Defender of Nashville, Tennessee, where he represented indigent individuals charged with crimes.

Stephen is a strong supporter of pro bono and other volunteer efforts within the community. Stephen also coached youth soccer, basketball and baseball, and served on numerous non-profit boards and committees including the Mental Health America of the MidSouth, YMCA of Middle Tennessee, StreetSolid, and The Family Center. He’s participated in mission trips and is active at Westminster Presbyterian Church and in Leadership Nashville.

 

Mr. Young is a member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, previously serving as one of its past presidents. He is a member of the Nashville Bar Foundation and served as a pro-bono program volunteer and mock trial coach for the Nashville Bar Association. In 2006, Governor Phil Bredesen appointed Mr. Young to the Tennessee Council of Interstate Adult Offender Supervision, which monitors the transfer of criminal offenders into and out of Tennessee. His main areas of practice are criminal defense and general civil litigation.

 

Stephen lives in Nashville with his wife, Mandy Haynes Young, and their dog, Grizzly. He enjoys spending time with his kids, traveling the world, and tending to and hunting on his farm, Dixona Farm, in Dixon Springs, Tennessee.
